I have been waiting for a set like this forever. A few years ago, a Darth Vader tie fighter came out, but there were no a-wing sets. Plus, both of these ships are upgraded versions of their vehicles. This set took me about an hour to complete. I began by building the minifigures.
The first minifigure I built was Darth Vader. This new model for Darth Vader looks fantastic. His helmet comes in two pieces which is similar to the movie where his helmet is two separate pieces. Vader's head is also the white and aged looking one that you see in the 6th Star Wars movie. Then we have the A-wing pilot whose model is basic. The custom helmet looks great and the chest piece looks like a pilot's suit from the military. Her head also comes with two faces. Next is Grand Moff Tarkin whose model has been moderately upgraded from its last version. His face shows more expression and his wrinkles are more defined as well as having two faces. Also, his hair piece is now not a smooth hairpiece that the original Lego minifigures would have. Lastly, we have Sabine Wren. I'm not sure where she is from, but she is an interesting looking minifgure. Sabine's colored hair makes her really stand out and her outfit makes her look like an explorer. As most of the characters in this set have, she has two faces. Overall, I like all the minifigures in this set and think that they go really well in it.
Next I built the A-wing. The A-wing has quite a few features. It has: two spring loaded shooters, opening cockpit, retractable landing gear, wings that can be turned, and some storage behind the pilots seat. It's a nice size to hold or display and is very play friendly.
Darth Vader's Tie Fighter is also an awesome build. It is more of a cool looking ship rather than a ship that has a lot of features. Its cockpit can open and it has two spring loaded shooters in the front. These two ships are fantastic and were a great pairing for this set.
As a whole, I think this set is play friendly and looks great visually. The only thing that bothers me about this set is that it is a little on the pricey side, but besides that, it's a great set. You can reenact cool fight scenes with these two ships and battle scenes with the minifigures. I would rate this set 4/5. I hope this review was helpful to all who read it and that you continue to love LEGOS!
